Silenced is set in Sydney’s Western Suburbs and follows a Muslim family dealing with the constant battle of Islamophobia and oppression in their neighbourhood.
Tuxworth was inspired after meeting a French-Albanian fashion designer in Marrakesh. “As we got to know each other she spoke about the reason she moved to Marrakesh. She comes from a Muslim family and since the recent ISIS attacks, she couldn’t bear to watch how much the Islamophobia was affecting her parents lives. This is where my inspiration for the script came from.”
Working with Amy was so much fun as she is a collaborative spirit and really engaged in the editorial and colouring aspect of the process. Once we knuckled down the basis of the story, we were able to plan a follow up shoot to plug some gaps around a particular tricky spot in the film. From here our MeshFX crew in Bangkok brought a sense of dramatic realism to the scene with the VFX, unraveling the complexity and enabling a more robust completion. It was great to see Silcened make it into a number of reputable film festivals around the world.
